Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha & Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater

Morning:

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): You will arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, and your safari guide will meet you at the airport.
  • Drive to Ngorongoro Crater: It’s about a 3.5-hour drive from the airport to the Ngorongoro Crater. The drive offers scenic views of the Great Rift Valley and Tanzanian countryside.
  • Arrival and Check-In at Lodge: Check into your lodge on the crater rim, where you can relax and enjoy beautiful views.

Afternoon:

  • Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive: After lunch, embark on an afternoon game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to thousands of animals, including the “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, and leopards), and boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
    • You’ll see an array of animals such as flamingos, wildebeests, gazelles, and zebras.
    • Keep an eye out for predators like lions, which can often be spotted on the crater floor.

Evening:

  • Dinner and Overnight at Lodge: Return to your lodge for dinner and rest. Some lodges offer stunning views of the crater, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sunset.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

Morning:

  • Early Breakfast: Enjoy an early breakfast before heading out for another game drive in Ngorongoro Crater. Morning is often the best time to spot predators and other wildlife before the day gets too hot.
  • Short Morning Game Drive: If there’s anything you missed on the previous day, this is a great opportunity to catch more sightings before heading to Serengeti.

Late Morning:

  • Drive to Serengeti National Park: After your game drive, begin your journey to Serengeti National Park. The drive will take about 3-4 hours through scenic Tanzanian highlands and beautiful landscapes. Along the way, you’ll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and may see herds of wildlife along the route.

Afternoon:

  • Arrival and Lunch in Serengeti: Check into your lodge or camp in Serengeti and enjoy a delicious lunch.
  • Afternoon Game Drive in Serengeti: Serengeti is famous for its vast savannahs, and it is home to the Great Migration, which takes place between June and October. If you’re visiting during migration season, you may witness thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles crossing the plains.
    • Even outside of the migration, the Serengeti offers incredible wildlife, with ample opportunities to spot lions, cheetahs, leopards, and giraffes, as well as various antelope species.

Evening:

  • Dinner and Overnight in Serengeti: Return to your accommodation for dinner. Serengeti has several types of lodges and tented camps that offer unique experiences, including dining under the stars in some of the camps.
Day 3: Serengeti Game Drive and Return to Arusha

Morning:

  • Early Morning Game Drive: Set out early for a morning game drive in Serengeti. The early hours are perfect for seeing predators in action, such as lions hunting or cheetahs on the move.
    • The Serengeti is large and diverse, so this is your last chance to explore the park. You might also catch a glimpse of the endangered African wild dog, along with elephants, hippos, and large herds of wildebeest.

Late Morning/Afternoon:

  • Return to Lodge for Lunch: Head back to your lodge for lunch, then pack your belongings.
  • Drive Back to Arusha: After lunch, you’ll begin your drive back to Arusha (approximately 5-6 hours from Serengeti). Depending on your flight time, you can either head straight to Kilimanjaro International Airport or check in at a hotel in Arusha for your overnight stay.

Evening:

  • Departure or Overnight in Arusha: If you have an evening flight, your driver will take you directly to the airport. If you’re departing the next day, you can relax and enjoy a peaceful night in Arusha before your flight.
